When is it Time to Reline or Rebase Your Dentures?

When is it Time to Reline or Rebase Your Dentures?

Baker Lanoue Denture Clinic Keeps Your Dentures Fitting Well

Dentures are made from materials that are designed to last when you take care of them. One of the biggest problems modern denture wearers have is that the dentures stop fitting well before they wear out. Instead of getting a new set of complete dentures, discuss repair options with the denturists at Baker Lanoue Denture Clinic. A denture reline or rebase can help you get the most out of your investment.

Why Do Dentures Stop Fitting Correctly?

Your mouth changes over time, especially if you’ve lost all your teeth. The bone in your jaw and the ridges in your mouth shrink. This changes how your dentures fit. If you lose weight, your dentures may not fit correctly. Sometimes, disease or illness can affect how your dentures fit. Just the daily wear and tear on your dentures can cause discomfort when you’re wearing them. You should never try to repair or refit your dentures yourself. Always take them in to your denturist for denture services and repair.

What is a Denture Reline?

A denture reline resurfaces the tissue side of the dentures, making the dentures fit your mouth better. A reline adapts your dentures to your changing mouth and gums, making the dentures more comfortable. It’s recommended to get a reline every 1 to 2 years to keep your dentures functioning well.

Here are four signs that indicate it might be time for a reline:

  • Swollen or painful gums when dentures don’t fit well
  • Loose dentures
  • Problems eating or speaking
  • Your dentures aren’t old enough to be replaced, but you need an adjustment

What Is a Denture Rebase?

Denture teeth last much longer than the base when you take care of your dentures. A denture rebase replaces the base of the dentures while keeping the teeth. A rebase is common when you are replacing an immediate denture or when the denture is broken. A rebase is recommended every 5 to 7 years to extend the lifespan of your dentures. Rebasing is not usually an option for partial dentures, only complete dentures.
