What are the Different Types of Dentures?

Dentures can be categorized according to a number of different factors. Read on to learn more about each type with a useful guide from your trusted denturists:

  • Complete Dentures: Consisting of upper and/or lower sets, complete dentures may be recommended if you are missing all your teeth on one or both arches. Typically, these dentures are made with high density acrylic.
  • Partial Dentures: If you are only missing a few teeth, partial dentures can be used to fill in any unsightly gaps. These types of dentures can be easily removed or replaced if necessary and are made from a combination of nylon, acrylic and metal plates attached to false teeth.
  • Immediate Dentures: As the name suggests, immediate dentures are dentures that are placed immediately following extraction of natural teeth. These dentures are always made in advance and can be fitted to your mouth following a procedure like a tooth extraction. These can either be a temporary or permanent solution.
  • Implant Retained Dentures: Implant retained dentures offer a variety of benefits and have been designed to reduce some of the problems patients experience with traditional dentures. These dentures are held onto your gums by titanium metal implants that are fixed into your jawbone, allowing the denture to ‘snap on’ for a secure fit.
