Standard Dentures should be relined/ rebased every 2-3 years to keep them fitting properly. Oral structures atrophy (shrink away) over time when there is no tooth root in the bone giving the bone stimulation, therefore to keep dentures fitting properly the patient should come to see their denturist every few years for an exam or potential reline/ rebase. At this reline visit, your denturist may take an impression of your oral structure inside the denture and process a reline inside the existing prosthesis. These procedures are generally done as “same day” treatments, meaning you do not have to go a night without your dentures. You may require relines more frequently in the cases of immediate dentures or if the patient loses weight.
